Intro: Funky Food

I love to cook and entertain at home (I am so good at pretending to be the world’s greatest chef that everyone believes I know what I’m doing). That’s why food has always been an important part of THE One Total Home Experience.

I started with an in-store espresso bar and a BIG Restaurant in our very first THE One Theatre, which opened in Abu Dhabi in 1996. There was only One small problem: Who was going to run it? So, I turned to my nephew, Stefan, who had been a ‘master chef‘ during his military service, heating huge quantities of pre-made soup in the galley of a naval ship. I buried him in all my cookbooks and told him to go and fix it. Do I need to tell you that he nearly died under the burden? Now you know why he has resigned four times; but he always came back. That’s the good thing about family – they will always forgive you.

From those first steps, THE One Restaurant today has blossomed into a favourite casual dining venue for food fans across the Middle East, who simply love our gourmet café-style menu. But don’t take my word for it: our Khalidiya Restaurant in Abu Dhabi has been voted What's On Abu Dhabi Favourite Café four times (most recently in 2012) as well as winning the Time Out Abu Dhabi Best Café of the Year award thrice! It furthermore received a rating of one grey hat in What’s On magazine’s 2012 Black Hat Guide. As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating…
